In today’s Gospel, we hear the beautiful account of the Walk to Emmaus. Often, people ask, “Why didn’t they recognize Jesus?” It’s hard for us to imagine the travelers not recognizing someone with whom they spent so much time, who taught them, loved them, and died for them. Cleopas and (most likely) his wife, Mary, were not only followers, but Jesus’ own aunt and uncle! How could they not have recognized the Lord?
